Chiyogami Red Plum Blossom on Light Blue Sayagata Round Pendant with Chain
Handmade pendant with plum blossoms on a light blue and white Sayagata background. The pendant is made of a 1.5 inch wide laser cut birch wood covered with Japanese chiyogami paper and finished off with a shiny resin. It has a lead and nickel-free brass bail and chain, measuring 24 inches in length. This is a lovely statement piece that is very lightweight and comfortable to wear.
The Sayagata is one of the oldest known symbols and used in many countries. In Japan it represents a wish for household prosperity and longevity. That is probably why it was commonly used on the silk of white kimonos in wedding ceremonies. You can also see this design on floor tiles and lots of fabrics and silk-screened paper. The plum blossoms along with cherry blossoms (Sakura) are heralds of Spring in Japan, and are also a metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life
Because of the paper and wood, I advise to always take your Sweet Space jewelry off before bathing or swimming. Also, please do not spray alcohol products like hairspray or perfume because it can damage the piece.
Due to the nature of the silk-screened paper the placement of the design may vary.
