Chiyogami Sayagata in Navy Large Earrings
This is a listing for one pair of handmade earrings made of birch wood covered with Japanese chiyogami paper and finished off with a shiny resin. The Japanese silk-screened paper is of a linear motif called "Sayagata" and is reminiscent of a Greek key design. The wood piece measures 1.5 inch wide and around a 1/8 inch thickness. They have an almost 1.5 inch long nickel and lead-free brass kidney wire so the overall measure is around 3 inches long. They are a lovely statement piece that are very lightweight and comfortable to wear.
The Sayagata is one of the oldest known symbols and used in many countries. In Japan it represents a wish for household prosperity and longevity. That is probably why it was commonly used on the silk of white kimonos in wedding ceremonies. You can also see this design on floor tiles and lots of fabrics as will as this silk-screened paper.
Because of the paper and wood, I advise to always take your Sweet Space jewelry off before bathing or swimming. Also, please do not spray alcohol products like hairspray or perfume because it can damage the piece.
Due to the nature of the silk-screened paper the placement of the design may vary.
